Lingayen, Pangasinan – The Sports Development and Physical Education Unit in participation with the Federated Student Government of Pangasinan State University together with the Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP) successfully took the wraps off of the first National Table Tennis Tournament held last February 6-7 at the PSU Convention Hall, Lingayen.
The two-day event set off with thrill and exhilaration participated by 400 athletes from different towns of Pangasinan, nearby provinces and other regions as far as Manila to vie in the 11 different categories of the tournament. The categories were as follows: singles category for the elementary students for both boys and girls from 12 years old and below; 18 years old and below for boys and girls category; singles for men and women in the college level category, men and women singles and doubles non-rank and the executive category for players 38 years old and above.
The said event intended to promote table tennis as a sport and at the same time to uphold sportsmanship and camaraderie and increase the exposure of the varsity players in preparation for the regional and national competitions.
The Director for Sports Development and Physical Education – Dr. Robert “Pars” Sison along with the members of the unit, student regent – Mark Joel C. Aguila together with his fellow officers of the FSG, Campus Executive Director of PSU Lingayen – Dr. Armando Junio, University Sports Technical Staff and the Over-all Chairman of the event – Mr. Julius Sison, and the TATAP President – Mr. Ting Ledesma graced the occassion.
Among of the participants were from San Beda College – Manila, University of Santo Tomas, Ateneo University, Adamson University, University of Luzon, Dagupan City National High School, Philippine Military Academy and DMMSU Table Tennis team, Navy NRG, Table Tennis Association for National Development (TATAND), Captains Table Tennis Club and various teams from UAAP, NCAA, PRISAA, SCUAA, including the high school and elementary.
