SCUAA athletes, coaches buckled up
Paws are now polished and set to seize championships as Pangasinan State University (PSU) Golden Lions prepare for the National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Games at Batangas State University this Sunday, February 19.
“I think our athletes are now ready to face the National SCUAA games after our four-day in-house training,” said by Dr. Robert ‘Pars’ Sison, Sports Director.
He also added that the monitoring of the athletes before the set in-house training strengthened their chance in winning some events in SCUAA, plus the support given by the University President, Dr. Dexter R. Buted.
Golden Lions who are playing for Region 1 eyed to battle neck-to-neck against 18 competing regions in the Philippines especially that last year’s National SCUAA was cancelled.
Thus, PSU representatives in Beach Volleyball (Men), Dance Sports (Latin and Standard), Football, Sepak Takraw, Table Tennis (Men and Women) and Futsal had set their hopes high to clinch the top plum in the said competition.
Rogielyn U. Quijana, National Table tennis winner and PSU representative, exclaimed, “We are 100% prepared. Alam namin na sapat na yung training namin para sa nalalapit na SCUAA. Kaya na naming makipagsabayan sa ibang manlalaro ng iba’t ibang rehiyon.”
It can be recalled that Quijana with the rest of PSU Table tennis team triumphed to successfully notch gold in the last year’s National Open Table Tennis Tournment held at Isabela.
“Sa ngayon kinokondisyon na lang ang aming isipan para sa aming laban. Sabi nga ni coach (Julius Sison), always be positive and think that you’re a champion,” said Quijana.
Meanwhile, there are some PSU athletes who were captured by various teams in Region 1 in events like Athletic, Badminton, Basketball, Swimming, Taekwondo and Volleyball. Another PSU representative to cheer up is Russel B. Dela Cruz, Mr. SCUAA candidate who battles among other 18 candidates of different regions.
