PSU-Urdaneta’s College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) conducted barangay forum at Mauban Elementary School, Brgy. Mauban, Balungao, Pangasinan last April 7, 2021. The event was conducted in preparation to the Extension Program entitled “College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) Community Development Program.” Thirty-eight (38) barangay residents were the participants which composed of teachers, parents, out-of-school youth, and barangay officials.
The program host Engr. Khayzelle C. Cayabyab, faculty of Mechanical Engineering Department, started with an opening prayer followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem through an audio visual presentation. Afterwards, the barangay captain of Mauban, Hon. Romeo O. Cristo, gave a message welcoming the participants and the employees of PSU- Urdaneta, signifying his support to the said project. Enlightening messages were given by Engr. Socrates F. Nacis, the chair of Electrical Engineering Department followed by Engr. Leizel M. Locquiao, faculty of Civil Engineering Department. Engr. Marilou M. Fernandez, Chairwoman of Mechanical Engineering Department, introduced Pangasinan State University to the participants by presenting the vision and mission of the University as well as the fourfold functions namely instruction, research, extension, and production. Engr. Fernandez presented the University officials–the president and the vice presidents, the nine different campuses and the course offerings.
After introducing PSU and its fourfold functions, Mr. Emmerson Ramir R. España, the Campus Extension Coordinator, presented the extension services. Various extension projects with different partnered communities were also shared to the participants.
Arch. Zaldy F. Corpuz, Extension Focal Person and Faculty of Architecture Department, discussed the proposed site development plan for Mauban Elementary School. Engr. Harry Alan P. Errasquin, Extension Focal Person and Faculty of Electrical Engineering Department, presented the proposed design and plan for the streetlights of the barangay.
Before the open forum commence, Engr. Rodel P. Hacla, Program Leader and faculty of Electrical Engineering Department, talked about the content and the purpose of conducting training needs survey. At the same time, the facilitators, distributed the training need survey to the participants giving them ample time to accomplish the form.
While answering the form, the open forum took place giving the participants the chance to ask questions and clarify information. Kgwd. Cerardo S. Regala, asked about the plan for streetlights and the question was answered by Engr. Errasquin. Another question came from Rolando S. Cariaga, clarifying if the offered training skills in the form namely electrical safety and house wiring installation, welding, computer repair & troubleshooting, landscaping, and plumbing and sanitation will all be conducted in the barangay and Engr. Hacla answered that it is possible to conduct all of the offered trainings if they are interested and they will select the training to be conducted first based on the result of the training needs survey (the number of participants signifying their interest in a particular skills training). Another question on the schedule of the training was asked by Delbert Jhon R. Opeña and was answered again by Engr. Hacla that they will coordinate with the barangay officials for the possible schedule of the training.
