Lingayen, Pangasinan – The Caboloan Performing Arts Guild (CPAG) of Pangasinan State University bagged a gold medal in the recently concluded 5th Bali International Choir Festival, besting other contenders from different countries in a competition held on July 25-31 at Sanur Paradise Plaza Hotel in Bali, Indonesia.
The PSU community immediately extended their congratulations to CPAG right after winning the competition in the mixed choir category with their rendition of “Rosas Pandan” arranged by George Hernandez and “Soleram” arranged by Fabian Obispo defeating other 14 chorale groups from the countries of Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore, France, USA, and Thailand.
“Everyone in the team is rejoicing because it is our first time to compete internationally since the chorale’s foundation in 2006; and we are fortunate to bring home the Gold medal. It hasn’t sunken yet for all of us actually, we still couldn’t believe we won, having competed with other best choirs in the world,” said Romary Lincod, Deputy Director of Culture, Arts and Pangasinan Heritage Studies (CPAG).
Furthermore, Lincod was grateful to the people behind the chorale’s success most especially to their university president, Dr. Dexter R. Buted who led in organizing the chorale and thanked the CPAG’s conductors, Giovanni Sindayen and Ruby Keith Sison for their love, dedication and patience in teaching the students.
Out of 14 competing teams, seven qualified for the silver and gold awards, in which five of them earned silver and only two of them that includes CPAG notched gold. Moreover, they are expected to arrive in the country today.
