It was a celebration of honor and pride.
Pangasinan State University (PSU) revisited its colorful journey in the past 37 years in recognition of its employees who had brought honor and pride to what PSU is now. This happened as a part of the celebration of PSU’s 38th Founding Anniversary on November 9-10.
Giving flesh to the theme, “Kredibilidad at Integridad Tungo sa Kagalingang Global ng ASEAN”, PSU acknowledged the contribution of its employees who have valued the importance of credibility and integrity that served as major competence of PSU in bridging the global scene with its ASEAN vision context.
Dr. Dexter R. Buted, University President, said that the PSU’s accomplishments for the last 37 years were made possible because of the hardwork, dedication and support of each one of the members of PSU community. He also expressed his gratitude to all employees who are growing their full potential and performing their optimum best in serving the students and other customers.
With this, the PSU employees who have rendered service in the University for 10 to 30 years same with the retirees were given credits in recognition for their invaluable commitment and dedication in serving PSU. The employees and campuses that had outstanding performances were also honored and named during the University-wide Employees Fellowship Night held at the Capability Building Center (CBC) in PSU Sta. Maria Campus.
Campus Activities kick-off Celebration
All campuses simultaneously jumpstarted the celebration with a motorcade, thanksgiving mass, and opening program with the communal involvement of PSUnians composed of students, university and campus officials, faculty members, and non-academic personnel.
In the opening program, employees and students actively participated in the VMGO recitation contest and in the video-making contest on PSU Prayer and Hymn. The said activities aimed to showcase the best practices of the University in terms of providing clarity and awareness to its people around its purpose, vision and objectives.
Employees and students showcased and proved that they are not only academically inclined, but they can even sing, dance, and have special talents as they performed in the PSU Got Talent competition.
The other activities being held in the first day were awarding ceremonies, birthday celebrations, and boodle fight lunch.
Sta. Maria Campus is this year’s host
It’s been a practice that PSU annually celebrates its foundation in the Main Campus and this year marked a leap forward for Sta. Maria Campus as it hosted for the first time the founding anniversary celebration.
The campus proved that it could likewise offer a mass accommodation with its newly-renovated CBC that housed the employees of the University from the nine campuses during the university-wide celebration.
CBC was a part of the repair and rehabilitation of physical infrastructure projects of the campus with a 6.5 million budget under General Appropriations Act. Another 2 million budget was sourced out from the University’s Income Generating Project for the air-conditioning and equipment installation.
The building was dedicated and named after to the former late Senator Leticia Valdez Ramos-Shahani by virtue of PSU Board Resolution No. 58 series of 2017 in acknowledgment of her promotion for academic excellence and continuous support to PSU which brought development and progress of the University’s operation and structure. A thanksgiving mass was also held beforehand the dedication ceremony.
More so, the employees brought out their hidden talents in dancing during the Fellowship Night. The special numbers that were featured are: Cha-Cha for Asingan and Binmaley; Pasadoble for Alaminos City and Main Office; Waltz for Bayambang and San Carlos City; Tango for Infanta and Urdaneta City; and Swing for Sta. Maria and Lingayen. The host campus, Sta. Maria, emerged as the winner for the said competition, while Lingayen and San Carlos finished second and Binmaley landed as third.
PSU names 2017 Most Outstanding Employees
Four PSU employees were honored and recognized during the anniversary celebration with Dr. Potenciano Conte, Dr. Christopher Cocal, Ms. Wilma De Vera, and Mr. Jonathan Jose as they were proclaimed as the 2017 Most Outstanding Educator, Most Outstanding Researcher, Most Outstanding Extensionist, and Most Outstanding Non-teaching staff, respectively.
The said awards convocation was intended to acknowledge the exemplary performance of PSU employees in the categories of instruction, research, extension, and in non-teaching. It is a practice of the University in line with the Investors in People standards which creates a culture of appreciation where people are motivated to perform at their best through recognition and reward. It is also in consonance with the Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence pursuant to a Civil Service Commission Resolution where Best Employee Award is granted to an individual or individuals who excelled among the peers in a functional group, position or profession.
All the categories of award were opened to all PSU employees with permanent and temporary status only. The aspirants were interviewed by the Evaluation Committees on October 23-24 for the campus level and on October 26-27 for the university-wide level. The results were based on the following: twenty percent for interview and eighty percent for the set guidelines by the University.
