The Center for Hydrology, Aquamarine, Natural and Ocean Sciences (CHANOS) or formerly known as the Aquatic and Marine Reseach and Development Center (AMRDC) is one of the Research Centers of the Pangasinan State University located at the Pangasinan State University, Binmaley Campus in San Isidro Norte, Binmaley, Pangasinan.

RDC-1 Resolution No. 19, series 200_ designated Pangasinan State University as the Regional Research and Development (RD) Center for Bangus. The Center was established with the following objectives: (1) to sustain  the high productivity level and enhance the quality of bangus as a regional one town one prodcut (OTOP); (2) to improve the cultural management practices; (3) to address the problems besetting production, processing and marketing systems;and (4) to develop appropriate technologies. Through PSU Board Resolution No. 57 (D), series 2016, the Regional Research and development Center for Bangus was renamed as the Aquatic and Marine Research and Development Center  (AMRDC) to cater other aquaculture species.

In 2018 with the creation of various center of the university in the different filed of discipline, the AMRDC was changed to Center of Hydrology, Aquamarine, Natural and Ocean Sciences (CHANOS) under the BOR No. 124, s.2018. The  Center for Hydrology, Aquamarine, Natural and Ocean Sciences (CHANOS) was established with following functions:

  1. Promote, undertake and coordinate research in the three sectors/areas  of fisheries such as Aquaculture, Capture Fisheries and Post-Harvest Fisheries and aquatic resources and ecology;
  2. Promote and undertake research on aquaculture relevant and appropriate in the region with the following species fo finfishes:milkfish, tilapia, siganids, groupers, seabass, catfish, gourami, and marine invertebates such as sea cucumber, sea urchin, mussels, oysters and shrimps;
  3. Promote and undertake research on capture fisheries that will help marginal fisheries in the wise utilization of fisheries resources in the municipal and commercial waters;
  4. Promote and undertake research on post-harvest fisheries  in order to develop fisheries post-harvest technologies that will improve the fish processing industry in the region; and
  5. Provide  development and extension services to the community.

The Center for Hydrology, Aquaculture, Natural and Ocean Sciences (CHANOS) has the following Laboratory Facilities:

  1. Fisheries Science Laboratory which is used for  soil / water quality and limnological analysis, plankton analysis, fish health diagnostic test and microbiology laboratory analysis.
  2. Aquaculture Laboratory which is used for the production and culture of ornamnetal fishes and served as area for the conduct of  basic researches.
  3. Capture Laboratory which serves as area for fishing gear construction and net mending.
  4. Fiss Processing Laboratory for the production of value added products  and serves as venue for the training of fish processing technology.
  5. Tilapia Hatchery farm for  the production of tilapia fry and marketable size tilapia .
  6. The Center office is situated at the 2nd floor of College of  Fisheries Building.

The CHANOS Center also publishes a research journal, the Journal of Natural and Allied Sciences, which is an annual publication. It is an open access journal and can be accessed through the PSU web site https://www.psurj.org/jonas/.
