To fulfill the mission of the Pangasinan State University-Binmaley Campus which is provide knowledge and skills training for the welfare of its constituents through extension services, the skills training on Practical Methods in Aquatic Animal Nutrition Research was conducted at Pangasinan State University-Binmaley Campus in partnership with the University of Philippines Visayas (UPV) and funded by Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural  Resources Research and Development-Department of Science and Technology – (PCAARRD – DOST) was conducted.

The Pangasinan State University-Binmaley Campus and University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) collaborated to conduct the skills training on Practical Methods in Aquatic Animal Nutrition Research in order to carry out the mission of the university, which is to provide knowledge and skills training for the welfare of its constituents through extension services. The training was funded by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural  Resources Research and Development-Department of Science and Technology (PCAARRD – DOST).

The training aims to provide researchers and extensitionist in fish nutrition proper minds-on practical training and background in designing and carrying out feeding trials of aquatic animals. Specifically, it provides participants review of the basic background of feeding trials and properly design experiments appropriate with various objectives of such trials. The training, participants are expected to apply their learnings to develop a technically-sound proposal and to acquire competence to conduct studies on fish nutrition.

Training was done through lecture series which Dr. Augusto E. Serrano Jr. (Director, UPV-National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology) and Dr. Rosie S. Abalos (Dean, College of Fisheries and Environment Science) serves as resource speaker. Mr. Barry Leonard M. Tumbokon (University Research Associate, UPV) also serves as a resource speaker which provides actual demonstrations on feed formulation and feeding management. Present also from PCAARRD-DOST is Engr. Eduardo V. Manalili (Director, Inland Aquatic Resources Research Division) together with Dr.Cynthia V. Almazan (Senior Science Research Specialist).

The said training was attended by 25 participants that are faculty, researchers, and extensionists  from various state universities nationwide.  The three (3) day training was conducted last August 27-29, 2019 in Pangasinan State University- Binmaley Campus,  Pangasinan.
