Pangasinan State University (PSU), known for its adherence to quality management, has taken a significant step towards environmental conservation. The university organized a watershed management lecture in February 2023 for Local Government Units (LGUs), specifically focusing on the Sinocalan-Dagupan River System – Water Quality Management Areas (SDRS-WQMA). This educational initiative is a testament to PSU’s commitment to imparting crucial environmental knowledge to local authorities.
In a concerted effort to tackle the mounting problem of plastic waste, PSU has also introduced a sustainability manual that outlines practical steps to reduce plastic wastes across its campuses.
Program expert Dr. Irene A. De Vera of PSU Binmaley Campus, said the development of a comprehensive policy manual addresses pollution prevention and reduction. These efforts are part of PSU’s Strategic Plan for 2021-2025, showcasing a long-term vision for environmental sustainability, she added.
By marrying theoretical instruction with actionable policies, PSU is not only contributing to the preservation of the environment but also setting an example for its students and the wider community. The introduction of the sustainability manual marks a forward-thinking move to minimize the university’s environmental footprint.
PSU’s proactive measures reflect the institution’s understanding of the critical role education plays in environmental health and sustainability. Through its endeavors, PSU is shaping an approach to higher education that is conscious of its ecological impact and responsible for equipping leaders of tomorrow with the knowledge and tools to maintain a sustainable world.
